Description
The Berger VLD Hunting 30 Caliber 185 grain bullet is engineered for long-range hunters who want match-grade accuracy paired with rapid, controlled expansion on game. Built on Berger’s proven Very Low Drag (VLD) profile, this projectile combines a secant ogive nose with a precision boat tail base – the most aerodynamically efficient shape in the Berger lineup – to deliver a G1 ballistic coefficient of .549 for flat trajectory and reduced wind drift downrange.
What sets the VLD Hunting apart from a pure target bullet is its terminal performance. The sharp ogive is designed to penetrate 2 to 3 inches into the vitals before initiating expansion, then shed between 40 and 85 percent of its weight to create a wound cavity up to 15 inches. A copper J4 jacket over a lead core drives that expansion while maintaining the weight retention hunters need on medium to heavy game. Berger recommends a 1:12 twist or faster for stable flight.
These are reloading components – unprimed, uncannelured projectiles intended for handloaders building precision hunting loads for the .30 caliber family. Each projectile measures .308″ in diameter, runs 1.378″ overall length, carries a sectional density of .279, and ships 100 per box. Whether you are loading for .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Win Mag, or another .30 caliber hunting cartridge, the VLD Hunting 185 grain brings Berger’s accuracy reputation to the hunting field.
